Sheridan Studio of Music presents the second installment of a multi-episode lesson surrounding music literacy through sheet music and score reading skills. Be sure to check in for future installments of this topic!

Blank and Noted Music Staves (for reference, but not necessary)
Hand Staff (inspired by the Guidonian Hand created by Guido of Arezzo)
Mnemonic Devices (memory tools)
An active imagination (always!!!)
Light Sabers (optional, but AWESOME to have especially if you're a jedi)

Musical Brainscapes Activity - A Virtual Demo with *Special Guests*: Ms. Hardy, Mr. Ruddock, Ms. McCarthy, and Ms. Goodman!

Ms. Sheridan presents a demonstration video for an activity that combines the best of music and art class: Musical Brainscapes! This video is made for students who are working independently on music (remotely or as an aide in an in-school lesson), but could also be done by anyone who wants to express themselves both musically and artistically. This guided video also contains instructions that caregivers of students and/or teachers can follow to help their students create their projects. Regardless of where you are in your learning journey, this is for any independent and ambitious music learner who wants to try some DIY music and art projects!

During the COVID19 pandemic, not everyone has musical resources or instruments at home. However, if you have a big imagination and are willing to try creating something musical through a different way, this guided activity is for you!

Something to listen to music to (radio, laptop, tablet, computer, smart phone, etc)

The Basics of Ukulele with *Special Guest* -  Ms. Perry!

This lesson is title "The Basics of Ukulele" and it features our FIRST SPECIAL GUEST: Ms. Jillian Perry! Ms. Perry, a Massachusetts educator, virtually visited the Sheridan Studio of Music to teach our first ukulele lesson while Ms. Sheridan is out with a wrist/hand injury. During the COVID19 pandemic, not everyone has musical resources or instruments at home. However, if you do have a ukulele at home or if you are interested in learning how to play, this video is a great way to see how you would feel after a beginner class!

While this lesson is aimed towards fourth and fifth grade learners following Massachusetts State Standards for music curriculum, it can be used for guiding anyone who is learning how to play the ukulele for the first time.

After a hiatus, Ms. Sheridan is back with more music education videos!

This lesson is titled, "Intro to Reading Music Notation (Part One)." It will be a multi-episode topic, as there is much to talk about when it comes to reading sheet music and building music literacy! During the COVID19 pandemic, not everyone has musical resources at home. However, if you have an active imagination, a love of learning, if you enjoy history, and maybe a bit of chocolate fudge (watch the video to understand the reference), this lesson will be easy peasy! While this lesson is aimed towards third and fourth grade learners following Massachusetts State Standards for music curriculum, it can be used for guiding anyone who is learning how to read notation for the first time.

Ms. Sheridan presents a demonstration video for her music-inspired Concentration game. This video is made for the caregivers of students to help them help their students set up the game, but also for the independent and ambitious student who wants a DIY game project! Vocabulary is aimed towards middle elementary students.
Game and directions available in ENGLISH, directions also available in PORTUGUESE.

How to Make Homemade Shakers

This is my first video for the Sheridan Studio of Music!

This lesson is titled, "How to Make Homemade Shakers," and it is inspired by trying to make instruments accessible from the home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Every home has different resources, so this lesson was created to try to show students that they can make an instrument using a wide array of items that are at their disposal. This lesson is aimed towards Kindergarten and 1st grade learners, but could be used for any elementary student looking for a DIY project!

*Materials Used*
Containers: Orange juice bottle, single use water bottle, tupperware, metal can
Items for filling containers: Uncooked rice, almonds, ping-pong balls, coins
Other materials: Plastic wrap, elastic/rubber bands
